Ben - yes, he's been teaching for years in some good schools around the UK but right now, I believe, he is teaching over in Asia somewhere. I think it's Singapore! Lucky chap! Better than walking round town on a wet and windy Wednesday. He did the Whiskers in the 70's some time along with Pete Jurgens, Roger the Artful, Mick the Fed and Julius K Scragg amongst several others - Oh! and Ugly Ray Terret used to be there if I remember correctly. Ben Murphy also worked at Bailey's, Dreamers, Jaspers and managed the Candy Peel in Heywood in the 70s. He had a great record collection. Wonder if he still has any of the collection? Memories! __________________ Freezincoldin99tuesold |

Reply with quote | #6 | Yes, that's right. Ben Murphy replying. I did the rounds of a number of clubs in the area in the 70s and 80s and also worked in London for a while. Done some TV - a number of small (speaking) roles over the years but never took it up in a big way. Still get repeats from some - especially 'League of Gentlemen' which I really enjoyed being involved in.
One club not mentioned by Freezin' is Kittyman's which I did for a short time.
I still love music and brought my collection over to Singapore with me. You never know if (or when) it might come in handy. If the heat does not warp the vinyl first.

Don't worry 'grandwazoo' I don't drink that much myself nowadays. I actually stopped for 10 months until August this year but when I came over here I was tempted to savour the delights of some new beers and now have the occasional tipple. You don't need to drink to enjoy yourself anyway. __________________ dramasingapore |

Reply with quote | #9 | Been here since the end of August and I have to say that I have yet to see any trouble in bars but the fact that armed police could be around any corner might have something to do with it. Not much violence in these parts - that's not to say it doesn't go on - especially on the streets.
Even what some would call 'drug possession' could be determined as 'trafficking' over here and there is a mandatory death sentence (I understand) for anyone convicted of that offence.
It's a very safe place to live and old folk can saunter off for a stroll at any time of day and night without fear of being mugged (or worse). __________________ dramasingapore |
